What Are The Top Social Networking Sites?
Stumble It!
This is my personal Top 10 List of Social Networking Sites based on my usage and how important they are to me when it comes to networking and getting traffic for my website.
Twitter – I use this frequently. I love Twitter. It’s easy to read posts from people because they aren’t a mile long and if they want you to know more about their post, they’ll put a shortened link (tiny url) on it. I have gained a lot of knowledge on Twitter from fellow bloggers. I put a feed from Twitter on my site during hurricane Gustav so I could get some first hand accounts of what was going on in New Orleans as the hurricane was happening. (Play by play.) Twitter gets the word out on my blog because I put my blog posts on Twitter and if people want to read more they can click the link I send . I never spam people on Twitter because you’ll get dropped in a heart beat.
Digg – Digg is a social bookmarking site. You can store your favorite pages here or add a post from your blog. The more people that DIGG it, the more traffic you will get to your website. Don’t throw a bunch of spam ads up there either. The people that use Digg are smart and don’t fall for spammers.
Stumbleupon – I’m addicted. This is also a social bookmarking site. But what makes this site great is that you can add a Stumbleupon button to your web browser. You hit the button and you never know what you are going to get as far as cool web pages. I can spend hours clicking the button and getting great websites. I can laugh, learn and cry at the same time. (Kind of like watching Oprah.) - Okay so I get my man-card suspended for this.
Utterz – Blog, send pics, audio and video from your phone. This concept is amazing and I love it. I can blog from anywhere. I can record video on my phone and send it automatically to my web pages without having to touch my computer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SITE!!! If you are a blogger, this site is a must!!
Tumblr – Tumblr takes all of my sites and combines them into one site. Whenever I post a new blog, picture, video, or podcast, tumblr takes all of that information and puts it one site. IT UPDATES ITSELF. It’s great for getting links back to your pages as well as getting the word out about your blog.
Myspace – This is the whopper with over 250 million users. I use this to keep in touch with all of my friends from college and high school. The only drawback is that if you put a link on your page, myspace warns the person that clicks your link that they may be getting spammed or phished. Myspace needs to fix this issue. They also cloak or mask links so that they can’t be used when it comes to search engine optimization.
Facebook – Face book has some great applications that I use on my page. I have also found a lot of old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time.
Technorati - Technorati was founded to help bloggers to succeed by collecting, highlighting, and distributing the online global conversation. As a blog search engine and comprehensive source of information on the blogosphere, they index more than 1.5 million new blog posts in real time and introduce millions of readers to blog and social media content.
Youtube – Need I say more? Well, I will. If you embed a video on your blog that counts as a link back to your page. If you look at the statistics and data link under a Youtube video you’ll see how many people linked to that video. Also short videos under 2 minutes are great for your blog. You don’t want to bore the reader/viewer. I love Youtube and I love using video on my blog.
Delico.us -Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source. With emphasis on the power of the community, Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet. If your friends use Delicious, you can send them interesting bookmarks that they can check out the next time they log in. Of course, they can do the same for you. As you explore the site and find interesting users, you can use our Subscriptions and Network features to keep track of the Delicious tags and users you find most interesting.
